Aware of the importance of establishing sustainable social cohesion between Republic of Macedonia and Kosovo as precondition for regional stability and prosperity and encouraged by the EU support for engaging in cross-border partnerships, the (Co) Applicants have developed this action aiming to contribute social cohesion between the neighbouring countries and deliver measurable and long-term results. The (Co)Applicants are organisations experienced in implementation of various HIV prevention activities having particular focus on most-at-risk population. The action intends to reach the overall and specific objectives through exchange of best practices, developing common strategies/action plans and active involvement of all relevant stakeholders.

Overall objective of the action is to contribute to sustainable social cohesion between Republic of Macedonia and Kosovo through establishing cross-border partnership in the area of HIV prevention.  The wellbeing of the citizens in the society is not solely dependent on the quality of public governance - often it is affected by external factors and threats such as the human immunodeficiency virus (HIV) that causes progressive failure of the immune system and has caused significant casualties on global level. In such circumstances the state and society in general are responsible to establish effective prevention mechanisms. Identifying lack of adequate sustainable mechanisms for providing activities on prevention of HIV transmission, especially on local level, this action intends to engage all relevant stakeholders in the bordering regions of Republic of Macedonia and Kosovo.

Specific objectives of the action are: raising awareness on prevention of HIV transmission among most-at-risk population in the municipalities of City of Skopje, Tetovo, Kumanovo, Gostivar  in Macedonia and municipalities of Prishtina, Gjilan, Prizren and Kacanik in Kosovo; raising awareness on prevention of drug use  in the municipalities of of Prishtina, Gjilan, Prizren and Kacanik in Kosovo , promoting partnership between the civil and public sector in establishing sustainable HIV and drug prevention mechanisms; and promoting cross-border co-operation between local institutions and organizations from bordering areas of Macedonia and Kosovo as valuable tool  for exchange of best practices and achieving long-term results on regional level

Expected results are:

•    Increased public awareness on HIV/drug prevention in the respective eight municipalities

•    Increased capacity of the local institutions for developing sustainable HIV/drug prevention mechanisms

Increased cross-border promotion of HIV/drug prevention mechanisms
